When learning foreign languages, we often look for parts of the new word which remind us of a word in our native language. 40 years ago I had a Japanese exchange student who lived with us in the US for a year. Normally learning to read Japanese requires a lot of searching through dictionaries to decipher each and every word, which is why the vocabulary list makes reading so much easier.
